When you reread your own draft, you're not actually reading. You're remembering. 

You had the idea. You chose the words. So when you read over the words, you're not interpreting, as a reader. You're just associating the words with ideas that you've already had.

That's why it's so hard to proofread your own work.

So if we can never put ourselves in the position of a reader, how can any writer edit their own work?
