Bad writers are bad because readers can't interpret their sentences.

  • Which word receives emphasis?
  • How does this sentence link backwards to the one that came before?
  • How does it lean forwards to the one that follows?

When readers have a hard time answering these questions, they stop reading.

Expert writers help readers interpret their sentences. They do so by giving readers instructions.
